Italy investor Visa

Italy's investor visa is a 2-year Business visa for non-EU citizens who wish to invest in Italy's strategic assets. The Visa was introduced to make significant advancement in the strategic areas of the Italian economy and society. It was planned to make Italy increasingly attractive to the international flow of human and financial capital, adhering to the field's best practices.

Initially, the Visa is granted for a two-year residence permit, which can be renewable for another three years after residing in Italy till the visa expiry. After five years of uninterrupted residence in Italy, you can apply for an EU residence permit. And, after ten years of residence in Italy, you will be granted Italian citizenship.

Italy has the provision of Dual Citizenship, and if you wish to migrate to another country, you can quickly settle in your destined country.

 Visa Process

The application process is divided into two steps:

  • Online Application for Nulla Osta (certificate of no impediment)
  • Application for investor visa at Italian Embassy or Consulate

Process for applying Nulla Osta (certificate of no impediment):

  • Arrange all the documents as per the checklist
  • Submit an online application on the official website
  • Fill and Complete a series of forms and applications
  • Download the Final Declaration and submit the Application
  • Investor Visa Committee Secretariat will evaluate the Application and make a decision
  • You will receive the decision on Nulla Osta within 30 days

Process for applying for investor visa at Italian Embassy or Consulate:

  • Upon receiving Nulla Osta, you have six months to apply for Visa at Italian Embassy or Consulate
  • Submit the Nulla Osta document and hard copies of all the documents you have already submitted
  • Upon approval, you will have two years to use it to enter Italy

After arriving in Italy with the Visa:

  • Once you reach Italy, you have to go to Questura (Police Headquarters) to request an Italian Residence Permit. The Residence Permit is valid for two years.
  • You have three months to make your investment or donation in full from the date of Application for Residence Permit.

Renewal of Residency permit after two years:

  • You can renew your Residence Permit for another three years, 60 days before the expiry of the Visa
  • You must prove that you have maintained your investment or donation.
  • You can renew the residency permit multiple times as long as you maintain the investment
  • After five years of continuous residency, you can apply for long-term EU residency.

 Eligibility Requirements

Below are the investment options under Italy Residency by Investment:

  • Invest a minimum EUR 250,000 in equity instruments of innovative start-ups registered in Italy, OR
  • Invest a minimum of EUR 500,000 in equity instruments of companies operating in Italy, OR
  • Make Philanthropic donations of minimum EUR 1 million, in the field of education, culture, scientific research, immigration, recovery of cultural assets and landscapes, OR
  • Invest a minimum EUR 2 million in Italian Government Bonds

Eligibility Requirements for Italy Investor Visa:

  • Proof of ownership of the financial resources allocated to the investment/donation
  • Must be over 18 years old during the application submission
  • Must have a clean criminal record and health checkup record

 Documents Required

  • Copy of your passport
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Documents on financial resources that you will invest/donate—E.g. bank account statements.
  • An official letter by the bank where your assets are located declaring that they have carried out adequate checks.
  • Character certificate that you no criminal charges
  • Description of the nature of the investment/donation
  • Proof of consent from the recipient of the investment or donation
  • Declaration of Commitment to using the funds signed electronically

After you receive the Nulla Osta, the below documents are to be submitted to the Italian Embassy for Italy permanent residence by investment:

  • Copy of the Nulla Osta along with all the original hard copies of the above documents.
  • Accommodation Proof in Italy
  • Proof of income from the previous financial year. Your payment must meet the minimum threshold of €8,500 for exemption from healthcare expenses.
  • A passport-size picture of yourself
  • Your valid passport
  • Proof of residence in your country
